British Energy unions offered 3% pay increase

British Energy has offered the joint trade unions a 3% pay increase applicable from 1 July 2001 for a year with no strings attached. In response to this offer the unions have suspended industrial action, which was due to start at midnight on Monday 19 November, and will ballot members on the company’s offer.

The unions will be recommending acceptance of the offer at a meeting of all trade union stewards/workplace representatives on 21 November.

The unions have also agreed to enter into a constructive dialogue with British Energy to negotiate a new single table agreement covering all union members in the company. These negotiations will be facilitated by ACAS.

Prospect national officer Tony Aldous, who was leading the union negotiations, said: "The unions are content with this offer but disappointed at the procedure that we had to go through in order to get a sensible deal from the company."
