Proposals to outsource Jersey Tourism arose in the spring of 2011. This led to grave concern amongst the staff in the department, and they sought the help of their local Prospect representatives. Those reps raised their concerns with the Director of Economic Development, and in the autumn with the Civil Service Forum.

Staff's primary concern was to retain Jersey Tourism within the civil service. Prospect reps demanded a full business case explaining why the proposal would be value for money for the States of Jersey, and for staff to be involved in the writing of that business case.

The business case has recently been completed. It shows that the proposal is not value for money, and would require a level of funding from the island's tourism industry that was not sustainable. Senior civil service management have therefore withdrawn the proposals.
