Countdown to October 20: march for a future that works

With just days to go until Saturday's TUC marches and rallies against austerity, Prospect general secretary Paul Noon is encouraging all members to take part in one of the three marches in London, Glasgow and Belfast.

Noon said: "These events are vital parts of building effective opposition to government policies which have been so damaging to Prospect members.

General arrangements for the marches can be found on the TUC's dedicated website.

The London march will begin on the Victoria Embankment, setting off around noon. The Prospect section of the march will begin at Section 10 of the form up. This will be on the Embankment and will be clearly signposted.

Transport has been organised on trade union coaches and trains and details of this can be found on the False Economy website. Reasonable requests for Prospect to cover costs from outside London will be considered, and reps seeking this on behalf of their members should email [email protected].

Once members arrive at the march there will be a number of Prospect stewards at the meeting point, who will be able to assist with any queries, and who will have a variety of materials, flags and banners to hand out.

In addition a dedicated Twitter feed @futurethatworks has been set up which will be a key source of information on the day, with the hashtag #Oct20 linking people who are supporting the march.

A special four-minute video has been made, 'Before its Too Late', which can be watched through the October 20 campaign pages of the Prospect website.

Members are also being encouraged to pledge their support online via Prospect's campaign pages or at http://afuturethatworks.org/

Noon said: "There has never been a more important time to demonstrate our strength in numbers.” He also appealed to those taking part not to ignore  non-members: “Speak to them, recruit them and get them involved."

Non-members can join Prospect online.
