Nuclear union welcomes new policy stance

The largest union for nuclear industry employees has today (Monday) welcomed the recognition by the Liberal Democrats of the need for a fleet of new nuclear power stations as a key component for low-carbon energy generation for the future.

On behalf of 12,000 members in the nuclear industry, Prospect deputy general secretary Garry Graham said:

“The key challenge now is reaching agreement on the strike price, which will unlock the investment needed to help secure our energy needs and sustain investment in skills and high quality jobs in an industry where we should be seeking to be a global leader.

“Without an agreement we risk losing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to meet the country’s decarbonisation targets and help build a new economy and growth for the UK.”
