Tell Cameron and Clegg to press Europe on climate change

Climate campaigners want prime minister David Cameron and his deputy Nick Clegg to ensure the European Union takes on its fair share of the global effort to act on climate change and protect the world’s poorest communities.

Pressure group the Climate Coalition and partner organisations in Wales and Scotland are asking the public to send a message to the coalition leaders calling on them to:

  • ensure the EU takes on its fair share of the global effort to keep the temperature rise well below 2ºC, beyond which scientists predict catastrophic climate change
  • press the EU to adopt ambitious, binding targets to curb greenhouse gases and stimulate energy efficiency and renewable energy as a positive benchmark for other countries
  • agree a strong EU 2030 package as soon as possible to ensure a robust and united position at the forthcoming climate leaders’ summit in September.
