BACM-TEAM votes to merge with Prospect

Members of British Association of Colliery Management – Technical, Energy and Administration Management (BACM-TEAM), the union for professionals in the mining industry, have voted decisively to merge with Prospect.

In a ballot conducted by the Electoral Reform Society, more than 96% of those voting supported a transfer of engagements, reinforcing Prospect’s position as the union for energy sector professionals.

Commenting on the outcome, BACM general secretary Pat Carragher said: “The decision is an overwhelming endorsement of the BACM National Executive Committee's view that its members’ futures would be best protected by a merger with Prospect."

Garry Graham, Prospect Deputy General Secretary, said: “This is a great result and promises an exciting future. It reinforces Prospect position as the union of choice for professionals working in all areas of the energy industry.

“Prospect does not have the distractions of political affiliation; our relationships are with members and employers which makes the union a credible voice in the energy debate at a time when energy policy has never been higher up the political agenda.

“Today’s result means we can now focus on the issues that really matter – working proactively with our members and their industry to shape the future of the world of work.”
BACM will become a branch of Prospect’s energy sector with its own distinct brand, and serviced from Prospect’s Wakefield Office.

Subject to the completion of the transfer arrangements, BACM’s 450 working members and 1,400 retired members will become part of Prospect family from 1 November 2014.
