Prospect sees bright future for Airwave following takeover deal

Prospect has welcomed Motorola Solutions' acquisition of Airwave and is looking forward to working with them in the coming years.

Prospect is a recognised union at Airwave, which provides a bespoke and highly-resilient communications network for Britain’s 300,000-plus emergency services frontline personnel, such as police officers, paramedics and fire fighters.

Airwave is based in Berkshire and employs around 600 staff. The US company, which operates public safety communication systems in more than 20 countries, confirmed that it had completed the takeover of Airwave last Friday, 19 February, in a deal worth nearly £800m.

Parmjit Dhanda, Prospect negotiator, said: "On behalf of Prospect’s members I very much welcome Motorola’s acquisition. We will work to form a constructive partnership with Motorola that provides the long-term security our members have been looking for. This could result in the growth of the renowned and respected Airwave brand in the years to come. That’s what we will all be working towards."

Dhanda added that Prospect has already held one constructive meeting with senior managers from Motorola Solutions and is looking forward to meeting them again in March.
