For a number of years workers employed at Faslane and the associated base at Coulport have faced uncertainties over their job security. Although the decision to relocate all of the Royal Navy's submarines to Faslane over the next 4 years had provided a level of job security, workers remained nervous about future work whilst the decision on Trident replacement was unclear.

Prospect represents staff at Faslane employed by both the Ministry of Defence (MOD)  and by Babcock, the company contracted by the MOD to operate the base. The union also welcomes the decision as providing job security for its many members employed in the supply chain businesses, which are now able to plan their future business programmes.

Speaking on behalf of the more than 400 members of Prospect employed by Babcock on the Clyde, negotiations officer Richard Hardy said: "Our members undertake a wide range of roles at Faslane and Coulport, including maintaining the site, providing support to service personnel, and dockside operations. For some time they have been nervous that alongside cost reduction measures implemented by Babcock they might also face the loss of jobs because of the Trident decision. After the vote at Westminster at least one of those uncertainties has been removed".
