Skills and training needed to operate smart grids

Prospect members will need the appropriate skills and training to operate smart grids, the energy supply industry conference agreed.

John Rhodes (Northern Powergrid) moved a motion calling on the sector executive to investigate the impact of smart grids on skills within transmission, distribution and generation.

He said this smart technology provided significantly more information on electricity flows and innovative ways of maximising the use of power networks.

The motion also called on the executive to work with employers and the National Skills Academy for Power to ensure members are ready for smart grids.
