Responding to the news that the prime minister has called a snap general election for 8 June, Mike Clancy, general secretary, commented: “Prospect is proudly a politically independent union that stands up for the views and needs of our members.
 
“Whatever the result of the election, we will be looking for a government that delivers rising living standards, secure jobs and a voice for workers on how the economy is run.
 
“Trade unions are an important part of the solution to the challenges facing the UK with Brexit and the economy.
 
“We will test the manifestos of the parties and candidates against this agenda.”
