Scottish Power union leaders meet on pensions this weekend

Local Scottish Power union leaders from Prospect, the union for electricity industry professionals, are meeting this weekend (Sunday, January 15) in Carlisle to consider what action to take over proposed changes to their pensions.

The meeting has been arranged after the company revealed plans to close its final salary pension scheme to new members and raise contributions from existing staff.

On behalf of 1,200 members in Scottish Power, Prospect negotiator Glen Dobson said: "The proposal comes on top of 450 job losses imposed by management, and our members are very angry indeed at this attempt to grab back the benefits they’ve earned.

"Our branch committee will meet at the weekend to weigh up the most effective action to take."
