Airwave Redundancy Consultation Conclusion

We're delighted to report that Airwave have confirmed that the redundancy consultation is now drawing to a close, having reached the target reduction 140 roles via voluntary means.

We've had regular consultation with Airwave from the start of this re-organisation and feel the process has benefited from an open dialogue between Prospect and Airwave. Prospect has lobbied throughout this process for a voluntary approach which was by no means an easy case to make, or to achieve. We recognise how difficult this process has been for many of our members. As well as making the initial case for enhanced terms, we've held calls with members and represented many colleagues directly affected by the proposals. We've provided individual advice, answered questions and made ourselves available to support members in making some difficult choices about their future careers. This representation involved members in the Personal Contract community as well as MPGs, and we believe we've demonstrated that Prospect was able to support all our members, regardless of grade, throughout this difficult and challenging process.

Prospect would like to formally pay tribute to the workplace Reps who formally articulated the views of the PCG and PSG throughout this process. Prospect is clear that colleagues expect to have this voice heard in the company all year round, and not just in during redundancy programmes. We therefore urge members to talk to colleagues about joining the union which is the best way of demonstrating to Airwave that union recognition should be extended to cover the personal contracts as well as the MPG. We've been really encouraged by the level of feedback arguing that point over the last few weeks and we will continue to make that case over the summer.

While the announcement on Friday was welcome, we're in no doubt that there are some issues still to be resolved, and that the on-going challenges the company faces are likely to amount to a busy IR agenda between HR and Prospect. We therefore look forward to welcoming our new Prospect Reps later this month (more news to follow on that front shortly) and encourage all members to keep in touch with the union. We'll continue to issue updates and share news as often as possible.

Together we make a difference.
