Prospect welcomes naming of new Dounreay operator

Commenting on today's (Wednesday) announcement by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) on the preferred bidder for the Dounreay Site Restoration contract, Mike Clancy, Deputy General Secretary of Prospect, the largest union in the UK nuclear industry, said: "We welcome today's news that Babcock Dounreay Partnership has been appointed as the Parent Body Organisation (PBO) for the Dounreay site as this represents a significant milestone in the clean-up of the reactor and brings to a close a long-drawn out process.

"The partnership is formed from a number of well-respected contractors who we have found fair and even-handed in past dealings and who come with a proven track record of successful relations with UK unions.

"We are hopeful that they are looking for a long-term involvement at the site and see the potential for other work streams apart from nuclear, thereby maintaining and developing highly skilled jobs in the area while giving back to the local community."

The Babcock Dounreay Partnership comprises Babcock Nuclear Services Ltd, CH2M Hill International Nuclear Services Ltd and URS International Holdings (UK) Ltd.

The consortium will now enter into a three-month transition period while the contracts are finalised and the prospective new parent body organisation team begins a familiarisation and due diligence process.
