Civil Service Benevolent Fund becomes new charity

The Civil Service Benevolent Fund has been reborn. The fund has been rebranded in a bid to more closely reflect the holistic package of support and service it offers, rather than retain its traditional focus on financial assistance.

Today sees the launch of The Charity for Civil Servants – a name chosen to convey the financial and general help, advice and specialist information that it offers to current and former civil servants and their families throughout their working lives and into retirement.

Despite celebrating its 125 anniversary last year, beneficiaries such as Julie Harding can testify to its relevance today. Having lost her 17-year-old son she said the help she received in meeting the funeral costs was invaluable.

"It was the first positive thing to happen in what was the most horrendous month of my life. Taking that worry and stress away from me was invaluable."

The charity relies on support from civil servants either via donations, fundraising or volunteering. Visit its new website www.foryoubyyou.org.uk to find out more about its work.
