Krishna Upadhyaya and Ghimire Gundev are British campaigners, working in Qatar. They had been conducting interviews with Nepali labourers and investigating the terrible conditions for workers on Qatar 2022 World Cup construction sites - then vanished.

Both are feared to be detained by the Qatari security forces with their whereabouts undisclosed by Qatari authorities. It’s feared that they may have been subjected to enforced disappearance.

The ITUC and the TUC (in conjunction with ASI and Amnesty International) have responded with an on-line action and letters to the Qatari Ambassador in London.

Krishna Upadhyaya worked for years with Anti-Slavery International (ASI) and spoke about bonded labour and trafficking at one of Prospect’s international events.

Krishna is a firm believer that trade unions are an integral part of the fight against bonded labour and modern slavery and has worked closely with unions in India and Nepal (to name but a few).

Krishna and Ghimire were working hard to keep the world’s attention on migrant workers trapped in conditions of modern slavery in Qatar. Please join us in calling on the Qatari authorities to ensure their safe return.
