Veolia, the UK resource management leader, has nine energy recovery facilities across the UK dedicated to generating power from waste that can't be recycled.

It is estimated that 9% of the UK's electricity now comes from waste, helping to keep the lights on as well as meet the country's climate change commitments by reducing the damaging methane emissions associated with landfill.

The agreement gives Prospect, which represents 22,000 staff in energy, sole right to bargain and represent staff at Veolia's energy recovery sites across the UK.  Mike Graham, head of Prospect's national organising team, said: "This is a significant agreement which acknowledges Prospect as a major stakeholder within the wider UK electricity generating sector.  It also builds on our existing recognition in other energy-from-waste generators and means Prospect is now the most significant union representing staff in the sector."

Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy added:  "Prospect will work closely with Veolia and other employers to promote the energy-from-waste sector.  I welcome this agreement with Veolia."

Gavin Graveson, Chief Operating Officer, Public and Commercial, Veolia UK and Ireland, also welcomed the agreement. “Prospect has long standing recognition with Veolia at our Tyseley ERF and this new agreement will give it exclusive access to recruit members from our eight other energy recovery facilities,” he said.
