Women in Football at Prospect conference

Prospect is delighted to host an event with Women in Football at our national conference in Bournemouth.

The event looks at the role of professional women in football. Women in Football (WiF) members will be joined by Prospect delegates to share experiences of women at work.

We are fortunate to welcome a panel of three women with very different roles in the sport:

Amanda Newbery, Chief Executive Salisbury FC
Kelly Somers, the AFC Bournemouth Broadcast and Media Executive
Emma Tonkin, Dorchester Town FC Physio

The discussion will be chaired by Emma Saunders, BBC London and Watford FC reporter.

Emma will be asking the panelists about their role within football. She will be exploring what they are most proud of, the challenges they have faced, and how they support each other through WiF.

Sue Ferns, Prospect Deputy General Secretary, will be introducing the event and will be joined by Dawn Franklyn of Nautilus International, the union for maritime professionals.

Sue said: "We are very pleased to work with Women in Football. In many Prospect areas we have women professionals working in traditionally male dominated industries, and we recognise the additional hurdles for professional women in the world of work."

Sue added: "Despite the diversity of roles for Prospect women members, there is some commonality in the issues facing professional women, whether they are engineers, archaeologists, or football professionals.  We are looking forward to learning from, and sharing experiences with, Women in Football members."

Prospect’s lead negotiator for our sports sector, Alan Leighton, said: "Prospect has made great strides in improving terms and conditions of employment in sport and we have also challenged several high profile cases where women football officials have been subjected to sexism. We encourage women in sport to join Prospect and help us to improve employment conditions and career opportunities for women."

The event is from 5.30 to 8pm on Tuesday 10 May at the Bournemouth International Centre. It is open to all members of Women in Football and delegates to Prospect's national conference. WiF members can book on line .
