Employer fails to attend 2018 Jersey Civil Service pay talks

Representatives of the States of Jersey failed to attend important talks on pay with workforce representatives in a clear indication that once again the Employer is not sincere about wanting to negotiate with staff representatives in line with agreed timescales

A meeting was scheduled yesterday (16 May 2018) between the States of Jersey Employee Relations and the Staffside group who represent Civil Servants, one of the largest single pay groups within the organisation.

Staffside’s negotiating team arrived on time at Noon and after being kept waiting for over 45 minutes were force to leave when the Employer failed to attend.

Terry Renouf, Chair of Staffside and Prospect union's JCSA branch, said:

“This is a clear indication to Staffside that once again the Employer is not sincere about wanting to negotiate with staff representatives in line with agreed timescales.

“The new Chief Executive of the States of Jersey has publicly acknowledged staff are the greatest asset of this organisation and the events today totally undermine that position.”

The failure to attend this meeting follows a number of delays by the employer in completing annual pay negotiations in line with agreed policies and timescales. It is not what the member of the Staffside group had expected following the appointment of the new Chief Executive, which the unions had hoped would bring impetus to building a proactive and productive relationship with the States workforce.

Staffside are now consulting with their members on the next course of action.
