Unions must be fully involved in developing an immigration regime which protects jobs and the economy

Sajid Javid is to recommend the Migration Advisory Committee look again at its suggested £30k salary threshold for EEA workers coming to the UK post-Brexit.

Sue Ferns, Prospect senior deputy general secretary, said:

“It is welcome that Sajid Javid is thinking again about the £30k salary threshold which has united unions and business in their opposition to it. Many vital sectors rely on EEA workers earning below that mark, and even Cabinet ministers have admitted that salary is not a proxy for skill level.

"Unions must be fully involved in the consultation to come up with a solution which will not have a negative impact on jobs and the economy.”
