Unions also agreed to step up campaigning and policy work.
Steve Nicholson, from Prospect’s Sellafield branch, argued for a move towards a low carbon economy with nuclear playing a role alongside renewables and other technologies.
Steve said: “As the union representing climate scientists and energy and environmental workers, we know that climate change is real and requires urgent action from government and businesses to tackle it.
“We also know that this transition to a low-carbon future must work for workers and not lead to further de-industrialisation and unemployment.”
Steve spoke powerfully about the highly-skilled jobs the sector provides and the important role of nuclear energy in decarbonising our economy.
“Having a low carbon energy policy, with nuclear playing an important role alongside renewables and other technologies, should lie at the heart of any economic development strategy for the short and longer-term – whatever form Brexit takes,” he concluded.
