Prospect to ballot British Museum members on industrial action over pay

Prospect’s national executive committee has approved a request from the British Museum branch for a ballot on industrial action.

Prospect’s national executive committee has approved a request from the British Museum branch for a ballot on industrial action.

In an indicative ballot in late December 2019, almost nine in ten (87%) members in the museum said they wanted Prospect to organise a full ballot on industrial action over 2019-20 pay.

Prospect negotiator Brian Harris said: “The indicative ballot gave the British Museum a clear message that Prospect members are not satisfied with the pay outcome for 2019-20 as well as historic issues around pay.”

Members rejected the offer in summer 2019. But the museum went ahead and imposed it – despite agreeing to further discussions.
